Hunger in Texas

 

  • One in six Texas households is at risk of hunger.  Texas ranks third in the nation with regard to the percentage of households experiencing food insecurity.USDA: Household Food Security in the United States, 2005

Hunger Relief Programs

 

The Texas Association of Community Action Agencies, Inc., (TACAA) administers several hunger relief programs affecting families and communities in Texas.  Thanks to these programs, each year TACAA distributes an average of 2.5 million pounds of fresh produce and over 150,000 pounds of ground meat to people in need.

If you want donate food to any of TACAA’s hunger relief programs, please know that there are state and federal laws that protect you. These laws are known as the "Good Faith Donor Act" and the "Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act."
